Absolutely Love It! Better than Ninja by far!

Absolutely Love It! Better than Ninja by far!
Absolutely love this blender! Honestly since I heard Vitamixes were loud I was expecting somethinf obnoxiouslt loud, but was okay with it since its a good blender. Come to my surprise its not as loud as I thought it was going to be. I also love the recipe book this comes with! I was expecting a few recipes, but it is categorized and there are several recipes for you to try out with your new Vitamix. My sister who was more skeptical of this product than I was absolutely loves it and plans on getting on in the future. She owns a Ninja which is far more cheaper and she suggested I get one also since it works well and is cheaper. After she came to visit me and use my blender she is blown away. She told me she was going to by a Vitamix in the future. I asked her if she was serious because she just got her Ninja 2 or 3 months ago and she said the smoothness and quality of the smoothie she made with my Vitamix is far more superior than her blender. Some of the ingredients in the smoothie were apples, kale, and spinach. All of those are a little more harder to blend smoothly and she was blown away. I absolutely can't wait to try other recipes besides smoothies and this is definitely a good investment!

Amazing device. To first address anyone (like me) who sees other blenders like nutribullet be half the price fool you. Granted if you only want to do smoothies on the cheap you probably can just go to a competitor. But having smoohties from this compared to the nutribullet (600 watt) is night and day. The consistency is the same from start to finish, in the nutribullet I'd end up with a fairly thick start, a watery end, and seeds (chia, strawberry and other fruit seeds) lingering at the bottom. Using either manual or the smoothie setting does a much better job with dicing up seeds to mere grit (more if you go higher for longer periods), which I prefer, and you never get multi consistency smoothies, it's thick all the way through. The quality of the double walled smoothier to go cup is amazing and very easy to drink from albeit the pop tab is a bit tough but I got used to it. I've made great soup in the device as well, the addition of the smaller blender container really makes this far more versatile than a nutribullet. Not to mention the build quality is amazing. Attention to detail was made in every aspect of the device, from "knob-feel" and response, thick stury cord, feedback from the device on when and when you can't use it if it's not set in correctly, the drain spout in back for easy cleaning (though having it drain over the chord is a bit unnerving, it's not a hazard since wires or sockets are not exposed to water, and the fan to keep it cool.

So far the only con is that in addition to standard noise there is quite a bit of vibration from the device which I'm more concerned about when blending early and the sound may not reach the neighbors but the vibration will. I set it atop a thick oven mit to absorb the vibration which seems to work (tested with something set on the counter and watch for movement caused by vibrations before and after). The other con is that even though the to-go cup is awesome, you have to carefully plan the items going into your smoothies and optimize it to allow it to not overflow when you put on the blending blade. Since inside the cup there are 4 convex rails that run along the length of the cup (I think maybe to facilitate bringing items into the blade) and reduce the volume of what can actually go in, especially solids like ice and frozen fruit. I've underestimated how much can go in, overfilled it with liquid and when you put on the blade it will overflow. You have some leeway because the blade itself has some extra space, but most of the overflow is caused by liquid spilling through the loose threads (which isn't a bad thing, as it makes it easy to put on and the gasket really does the work to seal the device, another wonderfully user oriented design I love).

Overall I have no regrets on this purchase other than that you can downgrade and get a refurbished model from the vitamix website itself. I found the smoothie setting just runs it on a low setting first to break down the items and the nramps it up to about 7-8 for the duration for further blending. Either way the smoothies setting is useful for me to walk away and do other things while it's blending, which I actually like. Great Product

We bought this to replace our old Oster beehive blender which died after 10 years. We don't do different types of blending. Just smoothie every morning and a little salad dressing occasionally. This S-Series is perfect for our small apartment. It also has pre-programmed setting for smoothie. Comparing to the old basic beehive, I can see even my MIL can handle it well. The blending guide came with it has detailed instruction for quite a few recipes. We tried few dressings and all came out good.

The smoothie usually is done is 30 seconds. Nice! To be fair, this blender is pretty noisy. I certainly don't want to keep it running for over a minute. Fortunately the motor is so powerful that what used to be done in 2 min on the beehive can be done in 30 sec. Not bad for a busy morning. And I also like that all the removable parts are dishwasher safe. Have it for 6 weeks now. Very happy with it so far.

I've always wanted a Vitamix. When my Ninja IQ burnt out, I decided to give this a try. It does everything I want a blender to do & than some. More importantly is it has a 5 year warranty. The reason for the 4 stars is this: it takes some getting used to remembering to adjust the gasket with each shake. If you don't, the lid will leak. Because I make more than 1 shake at a time, this has been a small issue. The other reason is the overly large cup size. I wish there was a slightly smaller cup as an add on. Minor issues. If what you're looking for is strictly a blender-not a food processor- then this is fantastic! It also can handle making frozen fruit bowls. Most other smoothie blenders can not do this.
UPDATE 7/19-The blade assembly had nicks in it. I called Vitamix & they are sending out another blade assembly. They were helpful, considerate, & very professional.

Let me start out by saying I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for and have learned over the years to buy the best you can afford and you will not be disappointed, or have to say I should have just got the more expensive one and I would not have this problem. So ya let’s just say I like quality and I am willing to pay for it. So when my blender finely quit I started shopping for a new one. I got sucked into the hype around the vitamix and also that it was American made. Ya 400.00 seemed like a lot for a personal blender but for 400.00 it must be awesome. So I was pretty excited when it was delivered and could not wait to try my new bad ass blender. So I am all about smoothies you know like half a frozen banana a scope of protein powder some blue berries kale and some crushed ice and almond milk . Sounds good right? Should be no problem for my new kick ass 400.00 vitamix right? Wrong….. The vitamix labored to get through the cycle and did not get it blended on the first attempt so I ran it again and on the second try got the job done but not without a slight Oder coming from the machine. So far not very impressed, so I thought maybe it’s me and got out the owner’s manual to see if there is something I missed, nope everything looks good so the next morning tried again. This time I used a little less in the cup maybe I just had it to full. Nope same problem but now you can smell the blender motor right away then it just dies and will not work at all. So i went to the trouble shooting guide and it said that the blender has an internal breaker that will trip when it over heats. Over heats really??? I just turned it on. Ok so it said to unplug let it cool down and it will reset. Really??????????? Ok so my smoothie is still in the cup so I unplugged the machine and went to take a shower and get ready for work. So now I’m ready to go out the door and I plug the vitamix back in turn it on and it starts right up. Yaaaaaa got my smoothie and out the door. Day three only filled the cup half way and tried again. ya you guessed it. Over heats and shut down. So now I am pissed and drove through Starbucks. So that night I returned to amazon who by the way made the return and exchange completely painless. So now I am thinking I just might have gotten a bad one right? It happens. So I did not totally give up on the vitamix when my new one comes it will be awesome. I will have this great new dependable bad ass blender that I can count on every morning to get my day started. So ya you guessed it the new one sucked just as bad. So I boxed it up returned to amazon who was awesome and gave me a full refund no question ask. Thanks amazon! Just so you understand I don’t care what you buy. I am just telling you this to try to save you some aggravation. No one is paying me to write any of this, it’s just my experience. So the one thing I have learned is to pay attention to the motor size everything else is just bells and whistles, it’s all about HP and or watts of the motor. I will not tell you the name of the blender I bought so you don’t think I am trying to pitch for them. It’s a brand you here of all the time and the model I got has a 1500 watt motor with the auto iq. So you can figure it out and let me tell you that thing kicks ass I LOVE IT. So the morel of my story is the vitamix S50 is a piece of crap you can get way better for half the price. You’re welcome
